Crown Point Indiana Expo Shows Demand for Information

### Recent Preparedness Expo Indicates Pent-up Demand for Survival and Preparedness Information The paradox of the survival/preparedness movement is that when serous disasters are actually happening, it is difficult to do survival education events. A few years ago, there were frequent preparedness expos throughout the Country and the sale of preparedness book was brisk. The advent of a truly global disaster shut down the book stores, closed the venues for expositions, and made gatherings hazardous**. At the same time the events of 2020 finally woke up vast portions of the population to the need for survival training and gear.** It also reenergized existing prepper survival practitioners to renew their efforts and rebuild their networks. Live Free USA was forced to cancel it annual meeting and the Camp Independence event due to the closure of venues, but continued to publish information in American Survivor and on our website. A Live Free group in Northwest Indiana had scheduled a small preparedness exposition and seminar for this September fifth at the Gary Sportsman Club. In Crown Point. As the effects of the pandemic and the restrictions took affect it was difficult to know how such an event could still be held, but positivity rates came down a bit and restrictions were modified enough to proceed. While indoor facilities were available, the weather was so nice that everything was moved outdoor where it was safer. Vendors used tents, kiosks, or just open tables. Classes were held in a large picnic shelter, and food was available from a vendor. For a small one-day regional event, this one was well attended and the level of support and participation was high. The Live Free USA table sold out almost all of its books and recruited a number of new members. We were especially gratified to see many veteran members returning to “active duty”. **This small expo provided a good indication of the pent-up interest in survival training and literature. Now (at last) no one can deny the potential for massive disasters and the fragility of our society and support systems**. All Live Free groups should plan now on sponsoring seminar’s, expos and other events in 2021. As the pandemic resides (we hope) we will face other looming threats to life and freedom that we must prepare our families and communities for. **We will publicize all events in our newsletter, on our website and Facebook page.** *Note: Human nature dictates that after a major disaster people tend to go into a period of apathy and false security. The reality is that another disaster or disasters is no less probable the day after than it was the day before the most recent event. Wishful thinking and the desperate need for “normalcy” can work against preparedness and common sense.*

Camp Independance Will Return

America’s original survival and preparedness education event will be back in 2021. We had to cancel this went in 2020 because the venue was not available and we did not want to endanger our participants or the public with this gathering. The 2021 event will be more important than ever as we continue to deal with the effects of the pandemic, civil unrest, economic instability, and a multitude of ongoing and developing survival challenges. We also intend to use this as a networking and unifying event for leadership and preparedness groups throughout the region. Plan now to attend and bring members of your family and group. We are now gathering instructors and speaker, and will welcome suggestions. We will start taking registrations later this year, but those seeking to secure a camp site or “Rent-A-Camp: cabin for the event should do so immediately as these are very limited and often reserved far in advance. We suggest that you secure a place for Friday evening the 21^st^ and Saturday evening the 22^nd^. Reservations can be made online at the Indiana DNR website.

Coming Soon to Live Free USA

In the coming months Live Free USA will be moving forward with several projects and improvements. The challenges and hazards of the coming years demands that we strengthen our base and expand our membership. With a larger and more active board of directors we are now able to pursue multiple objectives.

Website Improvement

We are working to creat a more attractive and interactive website with more functions for online members. We also hope to have more activity in the survival medicine, chapter activities, and other specialized pages. We are also exploring ways to offer discounts to members who purchase survival gear through the site.

Chapter and Affiliated Organization Support

One of our directors will function as the Chapter, Affiliate Coordinator, regularly communicating with each chapter and providing support and and involvement. A Chapter Leaders handbook will be available by early 2020 and maybe a regular Chapter Leaders online newsletter.to follow.

Permanent Survival Training Facility

A land-site in northern Indiana is being developed as a site to conduct advance survival and self-reliance training operations. This site should be available in early 2020. The site will include campsites, sanitary facilites, a traing building, and a rifle and pistol range. We are seeking donations and pledges to help us make improvements and maintain the facility.

Added Value to Membership

A members Handbook will be available by the end of 2019. The book wil include information about Live Free organization and philosophy, but will also containe valuable survival information. It will be available online free and a printed version will be available at nominal cost. We may increase membership fees slightly and include the handbook with all new memberships. Other ideas are being considerd to add value to membership.

Expanded Survival Instructors and Programs

Camp Independence will continue at Tippecanoe River State Park in Indiana, but may be franchised to other locations throughout the USA. We also plan to revive our Certified Survival Instructors program to develop new instructors and support current instructors.

Opportunities to Get Involved

We currently have two opening for Directors to the Board of Directors. These posted can be filled by designation by the board untill the next election. Filling these posts will definitely help us reach the above goals. Additionally the board is authorized to designate Deputy Directors and establish teams to work on projects. We would welcome hearing from members new and old who want to get involved and active. Since we now use the internet and online meetings it is not necessary for officers to reside in any nearby location.
