Based on my life on the Southside of Chicago, I talk about tactics for avoiding being a victim. In this episode, I share a few stories here to make points, and touch on the best street weapons.

Preparedness Checklist
This episode is intended for those responsible and concerned citizens who have recognized the hazards of our times and have determined to improve their own readiness for emergency situations.
Survival Pack Extras
Beyond the basics there are items such as binoculars, dental kits, smoke bombs, documents, radios, etc. that are often not included in the “basic” survival pack” I will also cove items such as boots, weapons and clothing that should be kept with the pack in a secure tote-bin.
Survival Pack Weapons
As part of my "Best in Class" Survival Gear series, I advocate that if you have just one gun fore survival it should be a shotgun. I show and tell a more traditional pump shotgun, a folding stock defense shotgun, and a magazine fed, semi-auto shotgun design for combat. I also show a folding 9 mm, sub-rifle. These are practical, versatile and affordable alternatives for the non-shooter who needs an effective defense weapon.
Personal Hazard Analysis
How to use professional Safety Management techniques to assess your personal and family hazards based on probability, and severity. Including basic home safety, health, and lifestyle hazards.
Threat Matrix
This video outlines the top ten threats to American life and freedom in the comings decades, and how to survive them.
Mental Survival
How people behave under high-stress survival situations is the most critical part of surviving. All the knowledge and equipment in the world will not save you if you panic, freeze, or make bad decisions. Recognizing how your mind reacts, managing unsafe mental states can be the difference between who lives and who dies.
Survival Water Purifies and First Aid Items
The best In my opinion) water purification devices for survival packs and kits. The best and most versatile medical emergency item for survival packs, and first aid kits.
Ten Principles of Survival: 6—10
The first five of my Ten Principles of Survival focus on mental preparedness and conditioning for managing both immediate threats and slow developing disasters. These principles apply to not only emergencies, but to life in general. All ten are covered in more detail In my books. and on the AmericanSurvivor.org website.
Ten Principles of Survival: 1—5
This is part one of a two part series covering the Ten Principles of Survival derived from 50+ years of studying how people respond to high stress survival situations. They are applicable to all levels of outdoor, and urban survival, as well as life in general. They are more thoroughly explained in my lectures and books published by Skyhorse Publishing. This is more important than any skills or equipment.
Survival Knives
There are lots of choices for survival knives, but I have one "best in class" selection. I also cover pocket knives, multi-tool, and exotic, Rambo survival knives as well.
Survival Containers and Clothing
The best (in my opinion) cups, containers, and canteens for survival packs and outdoor operations. The best and most necessary clothing items for survival packs. Survival rule #1: "Never get wet!"
Survival Lights, Fire-Starters, Stoves, and Food
My recommendations for "Best in Class" emergency lights, fire starters, pack stoves, and survival food. I focus on small, cheap, reliable, easy to use sources only. There are bigger fancier sources of light, and bigger stoves for home emergencies, but I focus on the minimalist foundations of preparedness here.
Survival Shotguns and Sub-Rifles
As part of my "Best in Class" Survival Gear series, I advocate that if you have just one gun fore survival it should be a shotgun. I show and tell a more traditional pump shotgun, a folding stock defense shotgun, and a magazine fed, semi-auto shotgun design for combat. I also show a folding 9 mm, sub-rifle. These are practical, versatile and affordable alternatives for the non-shooter who needs an effective defense weapon.
The Facts About Respirators
As an EMT with certificates in industrial hygiene and respiratory protection, I have advocated N95 respirators as an "everyday carry" and survival pack item for decades. They work! Its not about compliance or defiance, its about survival. If the state outlawed wearing respirators, I would still wear one because its about survival.
What You Should Have in Your Bedside Drawer
Emergencies such as fires, storms, earthquakes, and home invasions can occur while you sleep. Having what you need immediately available can be critical to survival, escape and recovery.
About My Survival Books
In this episode, I describe the content of my four books, now in print from Skyhorse Publishing. Also available through Amazon. They are: Total Survival, Advanced Survival, 150 Survival Secrets (a Q and A format), and The Ultimate Book of Survival Gear. I cover the philosophy, psychology, equipment and skills of survival and self reliance.
Every Day Carry For Survival
I invented this concept as "coat pocket survival" back in the 70's. Things that you should always have with you to cope with unexpected emergencies. Mobile self-reliance. It's not what you have, it's what you have with you that counts in an emergency. Stay safe.
